Biography

Levent Akyürek is a Professor and Chief Physician at the University of Gothenburg. He graduated from the Medical School at Dokuz Eylul University in Turkey in 1989 and completed his PhD program at Uppsala University in 1996. Akyürek has held a postdoctoral position at the University of Michigan and the National Institutes of Health from 1997 to 2002. He became an Associate Professor in Cell Biology in 2004 and was promoted to Professor of Pathology in 2014. His research interests lie primarily in vascular biology, transplantation immunology, and molecular biology, where he frequently acts as a reviewer on editorial boards for scientific journals. Akyürek also serves as a consultant pathologist with expertise in pulmonary and thoracic molecular pathology at Sahlgrenska Hospital in Göteborg. He has participated in various research and clinical projects, contributing to high-volume lung transplant centers and authoring numerous publications in esteemed journals on topics related to cancer biomarkers, immune response, and pathological evaluations.
