Levi Thorne is a Wadjarri Yamatji man working as a Project Officer for the Midwest Aboriginal Men’s Empowerment project in Geraldton, Western Australia. His project aims to build primary prevention capability and develop the skills and knowledge of Aboriginal men to engage in community-wide conversations addressing the primary drivers of family domestic violence (FDV) in the Midwest. The project identified the Geraldton Aboriginal Men’s Group (GAMG) as a key stakeholder due to the lack of FDV information and support in understanding the issues faced by men and boys in the region. It focuses on unpacking topics such as community violence, health, respectful manhood, role modeling, trauma, emotions, and healing. Levi took on this role to make a meaningful difference for Aboriginal males in the community and provide necessary support. He is also involved in delivering the Clinical Yarning Program with WACRH and has expertise related to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in projects aimed at improving health promotion and education campaigns for early diagnosis of cancer in Aboriginal people.
