Lew Cantley is widely known for his seminal discoveries in signaling metabolism and the identification of the role of PI3 kinase in cellular transformation. His groundbreaking work has had a major impact on virtually every aspect of cancer cell biology. He was a faculty member in the Department of Cell Biology from 1992 to 2003, before transitioning to the newly formed Department of Systems Biology at Harvard Medical School (HMS) in 2003. In 2012, he was recruited to Weill Cornell in New York City, where he served as the Director of the Meyer Cancer Center and built a remarkable program focused on the intersection of metabolism and signaling in cancer.
