Biography

Lewis Daly completed his DPhil in Anthropology at the University of Oxford in 2015, where he was funded by an ESRC PhD Studentship. His research focuses on indigenous ecological knowledge practices in the northern Amazonia, particularly among Makushi communities in southern Guyana and northern Brazil. Daly has conducted extensive fieldwork exploring human engagements with plant life, agroecology, gardening, food practices, and plant use in rituals. He aims to advance the anthropology of plants and has published widely in peer-reviewed journals and academic blogs. He co-founded and edits an open-access online journal, The Ethnobotanical Assembly, dedicated to exploring the multifaceted relationships between people and plants. His current research includes roles as a co-PI in a project examining social insects and food security, alongside numerous project collaborations in the UK and Brazil, including work at Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi.
