Biography

Lewis Williams has extensive experience in contact lens education, having served as the Director of Educational Development for the International Association of Contact Lens Educators (IACLE) for 25 years before retiring in 2019. He is an adjunct senior lecturer at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in the School of Optometry and Vision Science. Lewis holds a Master of Optometry and a PhD from UNSW and has been involved in the optometry field for over 40 years, including roles in the Australian and New Zealand contact lens industries. Originally trained as an optometrist at the Queensland Institute of Technology, he also served in the Royal Australian Army's Corps Signals. His professional interests encompass contact lenses, optics, general clinical photography, electronics, and technology education in optometry. Currently, he collaborates with colleagues to develop oral histories of early optometric education in New South Wales, featuring contributions from foundational figures in the field.
