Biography

Lex van Deursen is an assistant professor in the research group Electrical Energy Systems at Eindhoven University of Technology, focusing on electromagnetic compatibility. His work involves advanced modeling and measurement techniques to aid engineers and scientists in understanding and simulating key factors that lead to potential degradation of systems in the early stages of design, enabling alterations in installation. His research spans both small systems, such as propagation disturbances in integrated circuits, and large systems like lightning protection in industrial installations and power plants. Van Deursen is dedicated to innovative modeling and measurement techniques rooted in advanced analytical electromagnetics and statistical simulation methods. Additionally, he investigates the interactions between transmitters and receivers in complex environments. He has a broad academic background, having studied physics and earned his PhD at Radboud University Nijmegen, followed by a postdoctoral position at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research in France. In 1986, he joined TU/e, where he has developed an EMC course now used in academia and industry, and is actively involved in conference committees including the URSI General Assembly and EMC Europe.
