Biography

Leydy Diossa-Jiménez is a comparative-historical international migration sociologist primarily focused on studies of violence, migration, rights, and gender. Her research investigates how political violence leads to exile and affects emigrant political rights, particularly in the contexts of Argentina and Colombia. Leydy's dissertation research compares the consequences of state terrorism on the recognition of political rights related to exile. She has received support from the National Science Foundation and the Fulbright-Hays Program for her work. Additionally, in collaboration with Cecilia Menjívar from UCLA, Leydy is exploring the ideologies of familyism that are embedded in violence against women's rights across Central America, specifically in El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Her work has been published in respected journals such as Latin American Research Review and Social Politics.
