Leyla Özkan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). Her research aims to improve operation and enhance understanding of industrial chemical systems through modeling, system theory, and mathematics, developing new tools and methods for chemical applications. She collaborates closely with industrial partners to develop solutions for processes that meet real industrial needs and has demonstrated the commercial value of these methods. Her group specifically advances methods for autonomous operation support technology, including predictive control models, real-time optimization, and process monitoring at the enterprise level, integrating process design with instrumentation and operational aspects. In addition to her research, Özkan teaches master's level courses such as Model Based Control and Advanced Process Control in the Systems Control master's program. She serves as chair of the PSE-NL Network and is an associate editor for the Journal of Process Control. Chemical systems exhibit complex behaviors that lead to numerous research questions in dynamics and control, making the mathematical expression of these dynamics a cornerstone of her research.
