Biography

Lhawang Ugyel has extensive background experiences working in academia and public service. In addition to his role at ANU, he has taught at UNSW Canberra, Tallinn University of Technology as a Visiting Professor, and the University of Papua New Guinea as a Visiting Lecturer. He worked in Bhutan’s civil service for close to 10 years as a Policy Analyst and Senior Human Resources Officer. He has also worked with the Australian Diabetes Educators Association as a part-time research officer while completing his PhD at ANU. In 2019, Lhawang undertook short-term consultancy work on projects related to community health worker programs in Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu. His research specializes in public policy administration, focusing on public sector reforms in developing countries, and he has published in journals such as Democratization, Policy and Politics, Review of Policy Research, and the Australian Journal of Public Administration. His PhD thesis was published as a monograph by Palgrave Macmillan in 2016. Lhawang is currently examining Buddhist Oceanic aspects of Non-Western Public Administration and the implementation of well-being policies.
