Li received a PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from Chongqing University, China, where his work focused on reliability evaluation of transmission networks planned for the Three-Gorge Hydro Power Plant. He has participated in commissioning the Gezhouba-Nanqiao HVDC System. Following his doctoral studies, he conducted postdoctoral research at the Universities of Aberdeen, Nottingham, and Heriot-Watt in Edinburgh, specializing in marine electrical propulsion and offshore electrical systems. In 1999, he became a Lecturer at the University of Northumbria and later moved to Durham in 2003, where he was promoted to Chair in 2010. Li joined the University of Warwick as a Professor of Power Electronics in 2012. His recent work emphasizes power conversion control for renewable generation and smart grids, as well as the reliability of power semiconductors. He co-directs the Warwick-Chongqing Joint Key Laboratory, focusing on SiC Power Electronics. He is a recipient of prestigious awards, including the Global Research Award from the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Stanley-Gray Award from IMarEST.
