Dr. Lia Sotorríos

Biography

Lia Sotorríos is a research associate at the University of Manchester, focusing on computational chemistry, particularly utilizing quantum chemistry tools and density functional theory (DFT) to study various chemical reactions. She completed her PhD in computational chemistry in 2020 at the University of the Basque Country, under the supervision of Professor Enrique Gómez-Bengoa. Her thesis included mechanistic studies on diverse organic and organometallic reactions. Lia has collaborated with notable figures in her field, including Professor Guy Lloyd-Jones of the University of Edinburgh and Professor Mike Whittlesey from Bath University, working on projects funded by EPSRC. Lia joined the Leach group in September 2023, where she continues her research in organometallic reactivity and electronic structure analysis. She is well-versed in multiple computational methodologies and has experience using a range of software such as Gaussian and ORCA. In addition to her research, Lia has taken on tutoring roles in various chemistry courses at the university.
