Biography

Liam O'Brien is a Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Carleton University. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Aerospace from Ryerson University, a Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Toronto, and a Ph.D. in Building Engineering from Concordia University. His research focuses on building occupants' behavior, building performance relating to comfort and energy, smart buildings utilizing big data, building simulation, design, and data visualization. O'Brien is also engaged in post-occupancy evaluations and the design of high-performance solar buildings. His work extends to building automation systems and daylighting solar control. He leads The Delta Controls Lab, which specializes in energy use, thermal comfort, and indoor air quality assessments in building automation systems.
