Biography

Liane Feldman joined Princeton’s Department of Religion in Fall 2023. Her research and teaching span Hebrew Bible and Temple Judaism, focusing on priestly literature and the relationship between literary production and historical religious practice. She works in translation and translation theory, engaging with both ancient and modern texts. Feldman is the author of the award-winning book 'Story of Sacrifice: Ritual Narrative in the Priestly Source' published by Mohr Siebeck in 2020. Her newest project, 'Consuming Fire: Complete Priestly Source of the Creation of the Promised Land,' will provide a complete edition and translation of the Pentateuchal priestly source, with the Hebrew text scheduled to be published in 2024. Currently, she is working on diverse literary representations of sacrifice in Temple Jewish literature in a project titled 'Rewriting Sacrifice in Temple Judaism' and exploring numeracy and mathematical thinking in biblical and early Jewish writings. Feldman received her Ph.D. in Hebrew Bible from the University of Chicago in 2018 and taught at New York University from 2018 to 2023.
