Dr. Liane Thuvander

Biography

Liane Thuvander is a Professor at Chalmers University of Technology specializing in Architectural Theory and Method, focusing on architecture and civil engineering. Her research interests include the development of methodologies for spatial value mapping and co-design, as well as linked visualization strategies that support stakeholder dialogue and decision-making in the transformation of building stocks and urban neighborhoods. Liane aims to integrate energy, environmental, cultural, and social aspects through the use of digital tools and building stock modeling. A significant aspect of her research involves inter- and transdisciplinary environments that incorporate action research, co-creation of knowledge, and collaboration with a variety of partners including universities, municipalities, and industry stakeholders in construction. Additionally, Liane leads the thematic area of Land in a cross-department initiative at Chalmers and serves on the steering committee for Urban Futures, a center focused on sustainable urban development. She is also a member of the technical board for Vinnova's competence center, Digital Twin Cities Centre. As an examiner for the master's course Reality Studio, she guides students in conducting field studies, co-design, and prototyping while collaborating with local organizations in Africa. This course is accessible to architecture design students.
