Head of Geotechnics, Lidija Zdravkovic graduated from the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the University of Belgrade in 1988. After four years as a member of the academic staff involved in teaching and research at the Faculty, she joined the Department of Civil Engineering at Imperial College in 1992 to pursue her PhD studies on soil strength and stiffness anisotropy using large IC hollow cylinder apparatus. After obtaining her PhD in 1996, she focused on the development and application of numerical methods in geotechnical engineering, particularly the bespoke finite element code ICFEP, including developments of input, solution algorithms, and constitutive models for boundary conditions analysis of unsaturated soils and soil dynamics problems. Her research interests include foundation systems for offshore wind turbines, modeling temperature effects on soil behavior, nuclear waste disposal, and geothermal energy exploration. She has applied numerical tools to analyze a wide range of geotechnical problems, participating in major projects such as Crossrail, Shard Glass, and Heathrow Terminal 5. With over 100 academic papers and co-authoring books on finite element analysis in geotechnical engineering, she has also served on the Geotechnique Advisory Panel and as a member of the Editorial Board for Computers and Geotechnics, while representing the UK in several technical committees.
