Dr. Lief Fenno

Biography

Lief Ericsson Fenno is an Assistant Professor at Dell Medical School, specializing in Psychiatry and Neuroscience. He obtained his M.D. from Stanford University and Ph.D. in Neuroscience. Fenno completed his Adult Psychiatry Residency at Stanford Hospital and is board-certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. His clinical specialty focuses on the medical management of addiction, particularly through medication-assisted treatment for opioid use disorder. Additionally, he has undergone postdoctoral training in Bioengineering at Stanford University. Fenno's research aims to leverage neuroscience and bioengineering to design and validate novel molecular viral tools that enhance understanding of brain health and disease, benefiting diverse patient populations. His specific research interests involve developing novel molecular tools that enable precision manipulation of targeted neuron populations in awake, behaving subjects. He directs a laboratory dedicated to expanding the use of these novel molecular viral approaches with the goal of establishing links between neuron circuitry and behavior.
