Biography

Liesbeth François is a College Lecturer in the Spanish Section at the Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages and Linguistics at the University of Cambridge. She holds a PhD in Literature from KU Leuven in Belgium. Her specialization lies in contemporary Latin American literature and culture, with a particular focus on Mexico and Argentina. Before joining the University of Cambridge in 2022, she worked as a postdoctoral researcher at KU Leuven for seven years. François teaches and supervises papers at the undergraduate level and in MPhil programmes in Latin American Studies and Literature, as well as Culture and Thought. She is the author of several publications, including 'Andares vacilantes. La caminata en la obra narrativa de Sergio Chejfec' (Beatriz Viterbo, 2018) and 'Subterranean Space in Contemporary Mexico City Literature' (Palgrave, 2021). Additionally, she has published articles on Latin American authors and co-edited volumes focusing on everyday urban space and its re-imaginations in contemporary literature and culture. Her teaching interests include 20th and 21st century Latin American literature and contemporary Latin American visual art. François' research interests encompass contemporary Latin American literature and visual art, particularly from Mexico and Argentina, with specific focus on themes such as narrative space, city literature, underground imagery, geological aesthetics, radical democracy, and community and collectivity.
