Dr. Lieselot Bisschop

Biography

Lieselot Bisschop is a full professor at the Erasmus School of Law, specializing in Criminology. Her primary research interests include environmental harm, corporate crime, and organized crime, with a particular emphasis on environmental governance. Bisschop has conducted studies on e-waste trafficking, planned obsolescence in electronics, and the trafficking of wildlife, gold, and timber. She also examines shipbreaking and coastal land loss, addressing the challenges of balancing economic, environmental, and social considerations in public and private governance. As a co-chair of the Public & Private Interests sector plan, she promotes collaboration among public and private actors in governing public interests, especially in areas related to environmental protection and human rights. Her ongoing research involves policing and controlling organized crime, including drug trafficking at the Port of Rotterdam. Bisschop is a member of a multidisciplinary team within the Erasmus Initiative on Dynamics of Inclusive Prosperity, which aims to uncover the drivers of environmental degradation and social exclusion, facilitating governance responsibilities among governments, businesses, and civil society to achieve inclusive prosperity.
