Lifeng Luo grew up in Xi'An, an ancient city in China known for the Terracotta Army. He attended Peking University to study Atmospheric Sciences and later moved to the United States for advanced degrees. He received both his M.S. and Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences/Climatology from Rutgers University, where he was advised by Professor Alan Robock.
