Lih Y. Lin joined the Electrical & Computer Engineering Department at the University of Washington in 2003. He received his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from UCLA. Prior to joining UW, he worked at AT&T Labs-Research as a Senior Technical Staff Member focusing on micromachined technologies for optical switching and lightwave communication systems. He also served as director at Tellium, Inc., where he co-led research and development efforts for high-port-count MEMS optical crossconnects. His research projects at UW include solution-processed materials, AI-driven optoelectronics, nanostructure-enhanced laser tweezers, and bio-photonics optical MEMS/NEMS. With a significant impact in his field, Lin has authored around 100 journal publications, 180 conference papers, and 5 book chapters, as well as holding 40 granted patents. He is a recipient of the MIT Technology Review Award and has been recognized as a Fellow of IEEE, Optica (formerly OSA), AIMBE, and the National Academy of Inventors (NAI).
