Lih Y. Lin joined the Electrical & Computer Engineering Department at the University of Washington in 2003. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from UCLA. Before joining UW, he worked at AT&T Labs-Research as a Senior Technical Staff Member focusing on micromachined technologies for optical switching in lightwave communication systems. He also served as the Director of Optical Technologies at Tellium, Inc., where he co-led R&D efforts on high-port-count MEMS optical crossconnects. His research at UW involves solution-processed materials for AI-driven optoelectronics, nanostructure-enhanced laser tweezers, and bio-photonics, along with optical MEMS/NEMS. Lin has authored 100 journal publications, 180 conference papers, 5 book chapters, and holds 40 granted patents. He is a recipient of the MIT Technology Review Award and is recognized as a Fellow of IEEE, Optica (formerly OSA), AIMBE, and the National Academy of Inventors (NAI).
