Dr. Lili Mou

Biography

Lili Mou is an Associate Professor at the University of Alberta in the Department of Computing Science. She is also a Fellow at the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute and holds a Canada CIFAR AI Chair. She completed her BS and PhD degrees in 2012 and 2017, respectively, at the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Peking University. Following her doctoral studies, Lili worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Waterloo and as a research scientist at Adeptmind, a startup based in Toronto, Canada. Lili's research interests are primarily in deep learning applied to natural language processing and programming language processing. Her work focuses on building intelligent systems that understand and interact with humans using natural language, with a mission to tackle fundamental problems in machine learning, particularly through deep learning methods. Key areas of her research include feature extraction in discrete input space, weakly supervised learning, and sentence synthesis within a discrete output space. Lili has published her research in top-tier conferences and journals such as AAAI, ACL, and EMNLP. She is committed to educating all levels of students and encourages direct contact with prospective collaborators whose work aligns with hers.
