Lilian Kabeche, Ph.D., joined the Yale faculty in 2019 as an Assistant Professor in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry and a member of the Cancer Biology Institute. Dr. Kabeche attended the University of Miami, where she majored in Microbiology and Immunology, obtaining her B.S. in 2007. She completed her Ph.D. in Biochemistry at Dartmouth College, working in Dr. Duane Compton’s lab on the mechanisms that ensure accurate chromosome segregation during cell division (mitosis). Dr. Kabeche then pursued post-doctoral research in Dr. Lee Zou’s lab at Massachusetts General Hospital, affiliated with Harvard University, identifying a novel role for the DNA damage repair kinase ATR during mitosis. Her lab currently employs single-cell techniques to elucidate the DNA damage pathways that promote genomic stability throughout the cell cycle. The Kabeche lab's work aims to redefine the components of the DNA damage response pathway, typically understood in singular functions, by exploring interactive roles that recognize and repair DNA. Dr. Kabeche is also focused on devising therapeutic strategies for cancer treatment using DNA damage response kinase inhibitors.
