Biography

Professor Liliana Caballero received her B.Sc. from Universidad Nacional de Colombia in Bogota, and her M.Sc. and PhD from Indiana University. She has worked as a postdoctoral researcher at North Carolina State University, the Institute for Nuclear Theory at the University of Washington, the ExtreMe Matter Institute at the Technical University of Darmstadt, the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory at Michigan State University, and at TRIUMF. She is affiliated with the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics. Prof. Caballero joined the University of Guelph as an Assistant Professor in 2016. Her research focuses on theoretical nuclear astrophysics, exploring the connections between nuclear forces and phenomena observed in the universe, including the synthesis of heavy elements and the neutrino emissions from core-collapse supernovae and neutron star mergers. She investigates the astrophysical phenomena that occur under extreme temperature and density conditions, using her research to expand the understanding of the interplay between neutrinos, nuclear interactions, and gravity in astrophysics.
