Biography

Liliana Andrea Morales Laverde holds a PhD degree in Biotechnology from the Public University of Navarre. Her doctoral research was conducted at the Microbial Pathogenesis Unit at the Navarrabiomed Research Center in Pamplona, Spain, and was supported by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions under the IberusTalent PhD program. She has a robust academic background, having earned an MSc in Microbiology from the Industrial University of Santander in Colombia, and another MSc from the University of La Rioja in Spain. Liliana possesses expertise in Molecular Biology and Synthetic Biology, along with extensive experience in microbial ecology, epidemiology, antimicrobial resistance, and genomic data handling. She has worked as a researcher in recognized international institutions across Colombia, the United States, Spain, and Sweden. Currently, she is a member of a research group led by Associate Professor Trobos, focused on studying biomaterial-associated infections and developing innovative models to study bacterial-host-biomaterial interactions. Additionally, she serves as a co-project manager for SHIELD, a major international research project dedicated to enhancing the longevity of devices associated with implant infections, which has been awarded substantial funding from the EU’s Horizon Europe program.
