Dr. Liliana Moreira Teixeira Leijten

Biography

Dr. Liliana Moreira Teixeira is an Associate Professor in the Department of Bioengineering Technologies at the University of Twente. She specializes in the development of human multi-organ microphysiological systems, focusing on organ-on-a-chip technology to investigate the role of organ communication, mechanobiology, and inflammation in disease processes. Additionally, she is the co-founder and co-scientific lead of the Organ-on-Chip Center Twente and an elected board member of the European Organ-on-Chip Society. Her previous experience includes postdoctoral research at prominent institutions such as KU Leuven, Wyss Institute at Harvard Medical School, and the MERLN Institute. Dr. Teixeira has been recognized with multiple awards including the Young Investigator Award from Cells Tissues Organs. She is actively involved with professional organizations such as ESB and TERMIS and serves as vice-chair of the Ethics Committee for the Biomedical Engineering Education Program at the University of Twente. Her educational background includes a BSc in Applied Biology from the University of Minho, an MSc in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Porto, and a PhD in Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine from the University of Twente.
