Liliana Perez is a Professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Montreal. Her initial training is in cadastral engineering and geodesy from Universidad Distrital in Colombia. She obtained her Master’s degree in Geography from UPTC, Colombia, in 2003. After graduation, she worked for the Marine and Coastal Research Institute 'José Benito Vives de Andreis' and the International Center for Tropical Agriculture. She moved to Canada in 2006 to pursue a PhD in Geography, specializing in complex systems modeling at Simon Fraser University, under the supervision of Dr. Suzana Dragicevic. In her dissertation, she focused on spatial and temporal modeling of insect epidemics and their complex behaviors. After receiving her PhD in 2011, she undertook postdoctoral studies at the University of British Columbia and the University of Victoria, where she investigated the spatial and temporal relationships between indirect indicators of biodiversity and climate change. Her research interests include the complexity inherent in ecological and anthropogenic processes, focusing on the spatial and temporal interactions shaping changes in our world, including climate change impacts on landscape ecology and forestry, using Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
