Biography

Prof. Lilly Liu joined the University of Oxford in January 2024 as an Associate Professor in Engineering Science and a Tutorial Fellow at Trinity College. She previously served as an Associate Professor at the University of Bristol, where she led the Materials and Device Theme in the School of Physics and headed the Experimental Mechanics Advanced Materials Group. Prof. Liu completed her postdoctoral research as an EPSRC Fellow after obtaining her PhD and was awarded a Junior Research Fellowship at Mansfield College during her time at Oxford. She contributes to various technical committees and is involved in numerous research councils and funding bodies in the UK, USA, Canada, Spain, and Italy. Prof. Liu's research focuses on the mechanical characterization of advanced engineering materials under extreme conditions, including ion/neutron/proton irradiation and elevated temperatures. Her work has applications in nuclear fission, fusion, aerospace, power electronics, and hydrogen storage. She has authored a textbook, numerous journal articles, and has delivered over 35 keynote talks at international conferences. Prof. Liu's ongoing projects receive substantial funding from various institutions and industrial organizations, aiming to advance research in the field of materials science.
