Lily Weng is an Assistant Professor at the Halıcıoğlu Data Science Institute at UC San Diego. She obtained her Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (EECS) from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2020, following a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from National Taiwan University in 2011 and 2013, respectively. Her research interests lie at the intersection of deep learning, optimization, and reinforcement learning, with applications in cybersecurity and healthcare. Specifically, she aims to enhance the reliability, explainability, and trustworthiness of deep learning algorithms to create safer AI systems. Throughout her career, she has focused on developing efficient algorithms and conducting theoretical analyses to quantify improvements in the robustness of deep neural networks. Additionally, she has contributed to the development of new automated interpretability tools designed to demystify deep learning models at scale.
