Dr. Lily Wu

Biography

Lily Wu is a professor in the Department of Pharmacology at UCLA with a strong background in clinician science. Her research focuses on translating bench research findings into clinical applications. Initially, her work emphasized building a comprehensive gene therapy program for treating advanced, metastatic prostate cancer. She has made significant strides in molecular engineering adenoviral vectors to address efficiency issues in in vivo gene delivery. Over the past several years, her research group has dedicated efforts to understanding cancer progression and metastasis, establishing crucial collaborations, and developing informative models. Her work in advanced molecular imaging has provided insights into the tumor microenvironment's influence on cancer progression. Her current research, including a project on metastatic renal cell carcinoma (mRCC), utilizes CRISPR/Cas9 technology to reveal critical pathways involved in metastasis. The outcomes of her investigations are aimed at developing effective therapeutic targets. In addition to her research, she is committed to teaching and mentoring students, having directly supervised over 60 trainees, including undergraduates, Ph.D. candidates, and clinical fellows.
