Biography

Lin Fang is a Professor and the endowed Factor-Inwentash Chair in Children's Mental Health at the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work. With over 10 years of postgraduate clinical experience, Lin's research primarily focuses on advancing theoretical and empirical knowledge on positive child and youth development, along with the etiology and intervention research in community-based service settings. Lin is well-versed in a range of research methodologies and advanced statistics, having published widely on adolescent substance use and the intersection of information communication technologies (ICTs) and mental health among immigrant communities. In recent years, Lin has concentrated on community-based research, investigating how neighborhood structural factors influence young people's lived experiences. Notable projects include 'This Regent Park', a SSHRC-funded initiative exploring youth perceptions of their neighborhood amidst major redevelopment, and 'My Script My Voice', a collaboration aimed at empowering Asian youth and families against Anti-Asian Racism. Lin also initiated a community-driven project during the pandemic, providing short-term counseling services, which trained numerous MSW students and assisted hundreds of clients in the Greater Toronto Area. Additionally, Lin teaches courses on Health and Mental Health in the MSW program and research methods in the PhD program, effectively blending practical knowledge with evidence-based research.
