Dr. Lin Ma

Biography

Lin Ma is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Manchester, specializing in multi-scale imaging characterization of rocks and geoenergy reservoirs. She leads various research initiatives focused on subsurface energy storage and has played a pivotal role in advancing digital rock technology. As an academic lead for the Women@Manchester staff network, she fosters inclusivity within the institution. Lin holds external roles as Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the journal Marine Petroleum Geology and Vice Chair of the Energy Group at the Geological Society. Her research aims include leveraging advanced 3D and 4D digital approaches to enhance understanding of pore networks and reactions in subsurface conditions, particularly for energy applications such as natural gas, geothermal energy, and carbon sequestration. Additionally, she has secured significant funding, amounting to over £3 million for her projects within the UKRI industries and has extensive experience with synchrotron facilities worldwide. Lin actively supervises PhD students in her research area and is open to applicants interested in collaborations. Her work contributes to the broader goals of energy decarbonization, sustainable development, and environmental protection.
