Biography

Lin Xu is an Associate Professor in the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC) at the University of Southampton, UK. He obtained his Ph.D. in Laser Engineering from the Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2012. Dr. Xu has since been based at the ORC, focusing on the forefront of high-power pulsed fibre lasers and mid-infrared laser technologies. His research explores mode-locked fibre lasers, including Ytterbium and Thulium fibre systems, nonlinear fibre amplifiers for ultrashort pulses, and optical parametric oscillators. As a Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator, he has successfully managed significant research projects, attracting funding exceeding £8 million. Dr. Xu actively contributes to the scientific community as a Review Editor for Frontiers in Photonics and serves as a regular reviewer for leading international journals such as Laser & Photonics Reviews and Optica. He is also involved in collaborative research initiatives, particularly in advancing fibre lasers for biomedical applications, such as multiphoton imaging and laser surgery.
