Biography

Dr. Lina Marin obtained her DDS degree from the National University of Colombia in 2007 and has centered her professional career on academia and research. In 2013, she obtained her MSc in Basic Biomedical Sciences from El Bosque University (Colombia). In 2014, she worked as an instructor and researcher in cariology and pursued graduate studies culminating in two PhD degrees in 2019: one in Dentistry – Cariology from the State University of Campinas, Brazil, and another in Biomedical Engineering Sciences – Biomaterials from Western University, Canada. She completed her Postdoctoral Fellowship at the College of Dentistry, University of Saskatchewan, in 2022. Currently, she is a tenure-track Assistant Professor and course coordinator for the Preventive Dentistry course. Dr. Marin has received more than 15 awards and honors at national and international levels. Between 2014 and 2020, she was selected to present her research in the prestigious IADR Hatton Award Competition, representing Colombia in 2014 and Canada in 2020. Dr. Marin has a strong publication record and wealth of experience in varied laboratory environments, integrating basic science with applied clinical research. Her research program focuses on deciphering the dynamic interaction between biofilm-forming microorganisms in the oral cavity and the host to understand the roles of biofilm factors and mechanisms involved in health and disease.
