Biography

Lincoln Caplan is a Senior Research Scholar at Yale Law School. He holds a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School, obtained in 1976, and has also studied as a Harvard Scholar at the University of Cambridge from 1972 to 1973. Caplan earned his A.B. from Harvard University in 1972. He teaches courses including 'Shaping Legal Opinions: Journalism' and 'Law: Art Argument: Write Law'. Additionally, he is an accomplished author, with notable works such as 'Tenth Justice: Solicitor General' and 'American Justice 2016: Political Supreme Court', along with several contributions to various publications including The American Scholar and Harvard Magazine. He has served on the editorial board of both the New York editor and the Legal Affairs magazine and has been a staff writer for The New Yorker. Caplan is recognized as a Guggenheim Fellow and White House Fellow, and he has contributed to Yale’s Whitney Humanities Center. His recent scholarship focuses on political aspects of the Supreme Court and its recent terms, with his most recent book published in October 2016.
