Biography

Lincoln J. Lauhon is a Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at Northwestern University. He holds a postdoctoral degree in Chemistry from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in Physics from Cornell University. His research group focuses on fundamental insights into nanoscale structure-property relationships to provide a foundation for engineering new technologies based on low-dimensional materials. He develops new approaches for synthesizing one-dimensional nanowires and two-dimensional semiconductors and exploits techniques such as 3-D nanotomography and scanning probe microscopy to investigate the properties of nanomaterial-based devices. His current research interests include non-planar III-As-Sb nanowire networks for quantum computing applications, vertical diodes for high-power applications using GaN, atomic layer deposition of transition metal oxides, and mixed-dimensional heterostructures integrating two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides for photodetection and energy conversion. Lauhon has received several awards for his work, including the Camille Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award and the Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellowship, highlighting his contributions to materials engineering and education.
