Biography

Linda Bierds is a Professor Emerita in the Department of English at the University of Washington. She holds a B.A. and an M.A. from the University of Washington, earned in 1969 and 1971, respectively. Bierds is a noted poet, having published ten books of poetry, with her most recent work, Hardy Tree, released by Copper Canyon Press in September 2019. Her poems have been featured in numerous prestigious magazines and anthologies, including the Atlantic, New Yorker, Smithsonian, Poetry, and American Poetry. Throughout her career, she has been awarded several notable honors, including a MacArthur Foundation fellowship, the PEN/West Poetry Prize, the Washington State Governor’s Writers Award, the Consuelo Ford Award from the Poetry Society of America, and four Pushcart Prizes. Moreover, she has received fellowships from the Guggenheim Memorial Foundation and the Rockefeller Foundation, as well as two from the National Endowment for the Arts. Bierds has played a significant role in creative writing education, having taught advanced poetry workshops.
