Linda Cardinal is an emeritus professor in the School of Political Studies at the University of Ottawa, where she held the Chair of Research on Francophonie and Public Policies from 2004 to 2019. Cardinal has held multiple leadership roles, including co-chairing the Language Politics Committee for the International Association of Political Science, and served on the board of executives for the International Political Science Association. In recognition of her contributions, she was elected to the Royal Society of Canada in 2013 and was nominated as a Chevalière of the Ordre des Palmes Académiques by the French Republic in 2014. In 2017, she received the Order of Canada for her contributions to the study of language policy, and in 2020, she was made Chevalière of the Ordre de la Pléiade.
