Biography

Linda W. Van Laake, MD, PhD, obtained her medical degree from Maastricht University and completed her PhD at Utrecht University with a focus on Cardiac Recovery Using Stem Progenitor Cells. She advanced her scientific career as a postdoctoral researcher at the Gladstone Institutes, University of California, San Francisco, USA. In 2011, she became an Assistant Professor in the Department of Cardiology at the University Medical Center Utrecht and the Hubrecht Institute in Utrecht, Netherlands. As a clinical cardiologist specializing in heart failure, Dr. Van Laake leads a team dedicated to exploring novel approaches to regenerate the heart using stem and progenitor cells. Her research targets cardiovascular diseases, particularly heart failure and myocardial infarction, and aims to address the functional loss of cardiomyocytes. The team focuses on understanding fundamental cardiac developmental and repair processes to stimulate cardiac differentiation in vitro. Currently, their work investigates various influences on myocardial repair mechanisms.
