Biography

Lindert van Biert contributes to research on the maritime energy transition and the application of novel drive energy systems based on fuel cells. His research focuses on enhancing the compatibility of fuel cells with marine power and propulsion requirements and developing new methodologies to analyze, configure, operate, and monitor cell systems at the system level. Key research topics include experimental characterization, modeling, and simulation of fuel cell components and systems, as well as the storage and bunkering of new fuels for shipping. He has served as an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Delft University of Technology since 2025, and previously as an Assistant Professor from 2020 to 2025. Prior to his academic career, he worked as a researcher at Royal IHC. Dr. van Biert holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Delft University of Technology (2020) and both a BSc and MSc in Mechanical Engineering from the same institution (2012 & 2014).
