Dr. Lindsay Baker

Biography

Lindsay Baker is an Associate Professor in Biochemistry at the University of Oxford. Her research is focused on understanding how environmental context impacts molecular and cellular function. The Baker lab specializes in studying biomolecular functions within the context of cellular communities, which is crucial for understanding infections and the commensal microbiome. Professor Baker's primary research tool is electron cryotomography (cryoET), which enables the imaging of molecules in their native cellular environments. Her work combines cryoET with a variety of approaches, including standard structural and cellular biology techniques, adopting an integrative methodology to address problems over various distance and time scales. Her research also involves the development of new approaches to manage complex biological samples and incorporates biological modeling strategies to study infection and commensalism, alongside biophysical and biochemical methodologies for identifying significant biological events.
