Born and raised in Durban, South Africa, Lindsay completed her architectural studies at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) and gained professional qualification from the South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP) in 2004. She has worked with a variety of international firms on projects spanning different scales and sectors, and completed a Master's in Urban Design at ETH Zurich in 2011, focusing on informality in Brazil. Lindsay has experience as a researcher, facilitator, and project manager in community-driven development and public participation, particularly in the Urban Age programme in Cape Town. She co-authored books and exhibited at the Venice Biennale in 2016. Lindsay taught Architectural Design, Theory, and Visual Communication at UKZN and Durban University of Technology (DUT), where she completed her PhD on high-rise urban living in Durban. Her research investigates the coastal strip's residential high-rises and their socioeconomically diverse inhabitants, using both quantitative and qualitative data to develop user-centric design approaches in high-density housing. Currently, she is a lecturer in the MA Architecture & Urbanism program, leading the Cooperative Urbanism Lab with themes including participatory planning, tactical urbanism, and the social city.
