Biography

Lingzi Sang obtained her B.S. degree in Chemistry from Xiamen University in China in 2009. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Arizona in 2015 under the guidance of Professor Jeanne E. Pemberton. During her doctoral studies, she developed molecular understandings related to charge transfer efficiencies at critical interfaces of organic photoelectronic devices. She has been awarded the Outstanding Research Scholar, Galileo Circle Scholar, and the Carl S. Marvel Fellow. Following her Ph.D., she conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign under supervisors Prof. Andrew Gewirth and Prof. Ralph G. Nuzzo. Her postdoctoral training involved multidisciplinary measurements of electrode/electrolyte interfaces in all-solid lithium ion batteries, revealing the molecular level origins responsible for battery shorting and capacity fade. Joining the University of Alberta as an Assistant Professor in August 2018, her research group focuses on electrochemistry and spectroscopy measurements of critical interfaces in all-solid energy conversion and storage systems. The Sang lab develops multi-disciplinary characterization approaches to better understand the fundamental processes associated with these critical interfaces, utilizing expertise in analytical spectroscopy and materials chemistry to employ a range of suitable tools for electrochemical measurements and in-operando vibrational synchrotron X-ray spectroscopy.
