Biography

Lionel Briand has held engineering, academic, and leadership positions in seven countries over the past 30 years. He has led numerous collaborative research projects with companies across the automotive, satellite, aerospace, energy, financial, and legal sectors. Currently, he holds the Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in 'Intelligent Software Dependability Compliance' and serves as the director of Lero, the Research Centre in Software. An esteemed fellow of both IEEE and ACM, Lionel has been recognized for his contributions to software engineering with several prestigious awards, including the IEEE Computer Society Harlan Mills Award, the ACM SIGSOFT Outstanding Research Award, and the IEEE Reliability Society Engineer-of-the-Year Award. He is an elected fellow of the Royal Society of Canada and a member of Academia Europaea, the European Academy of Science.
