Biography

Lisa Andermann is an Associate Professor and Clinician Teacher in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto. Her primary appointment is at Mount Sinai Hospital, where she works on the Ethnocultural ACT team and the Psychological Trauma Clinic. She provides outreach to remote communities in Baffin Island and has played a significant role in the inception and development of the psychiatry residency training program in Ethiopia through the Toronto-Addis Ababa Psychiatry Program (TAAPP). Lisa has co-edited the book 'Refugee Resilience: Promoting Resilience in Mental Health for Refugees and Forced Migrants' (Springer, 2014) and leads initiatives focusing on equity, social justice, and reducing stigma related to mental health. Her work includes developing postgraduate training programs that address social responsibility and cultural psychiatry in global mental health contexts. She won the Ivan L. Silver Award for Excellence in Continuing Mental Health Education in 2008 and the UT Postgraduate Medical Education Award for Social Responsibility in 2015. Her research interests prominently feature cultural psychiatry, refugee mental health, social aspects of epilepsy, and assertive community treatment among ethnocultural populations.
