Biography

Lisa Boyars, M.D., is a board-certified psychiatrist specializing in providing psychiatric care during pregnancy and the postpartum period, as well as preconception planning for women with mental health conditions. She works at the Women’s Reproductive Mental Health program at the Texas Comprehensive Fetal Care Center and holds a faculty position in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. Boyars obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from The University of Texas at Austin and earned her medical degree from The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. Her psychiatry training was completed at the Medical University of South Carolina in 2017, followed by a fellowship in perinatal and reproductive health in 2018. She previously served as the director of the Women’s Reproductive Behavioral Health Clinic at the Medical University of South Carolina from 2020 to 2022. Her clinical expertise includes psychiatric issues related to perinatal mental health conditions and substance use disorders, as well as individual psychotherapy. Her research interests focus on novel treatments for postpartum depression, addressing perinatal substance use disorders, and exploring burnout in medical students and residents. In 2022, she contributed to launching South Carolina’s perinatal access program, MOMS IMPACTT, and is currently involved in Peri-PAN, a perinatal access program serving women in Texas.
