Biography

Lisa Chong is an Assistant Professor at the Quantitative Fisheries Center of Michigan State University. She grew up in New Jersey and earned her Bachelor of Science in Marine Vertebrate Biology from the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 2016. Lisa continued her education by obtaining a Master of Science in International Studies in Aquatic Tropical Ecology from Universität Bremen, Germany in 2018. She completed her Ph.D. in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences at the University of Florida in 2023. As a quantitative fisheries scientist, Lisa's core research focuses on the application of quantitative methods and tools to evaluate the effectiveness of stock assessment tools and management strategies. Her work also involves examining the interactions between ecological and social systems within fisheries and exploring management approaches for fish populations amid evolving conditions. Currently, she is working on the methodology of age-structured stock assessments used in the 1836/1842 Treaty Waters of the Great Lakes, particularly Lake Erie.
