Biography

Lisa Engel is an associate professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy at the University of Manitoba’s College of Rehabilitation Sciences. Her research focuses on improving the financial capability and well-being of individuals living with chronic health conditions and disabilities, particularly those associated with cognitive impairments. Engel’s work examines the intersection of financial capability and health, recognizing that addressing financial issues is foundational for improving overall well-being. Using mixed-methods approaches, her research explores how individual and environmental factors affect financial decision-making and well-being. Additionally, she investigates the roles of health and social-care practitioners, as well as financial professionals, in assessing and supporting financial capability. Engel holds a PhD in Rehabilitation Science from the University of Toronto, where she also completed her Master of Science in Occupational Therapy. She earned a Bachelor of Kinesiology & Health Studies with a focus on Adapted Physical Activity from the University of Regina. Her research has been supported by the CIHR Allied Health Fellowship and the Arthritis Society Postdoctoral Research Fellowship.
