Professor Dr. Lisa Ewenson

Biography

Lisa Ewenson is a Research Fellow within the HowWeSurvive initiative at UNSW. She has a professional background in both law and social work, focusing on protection and the promotion of human rights, particularly in youth justice and immigration detention settings. Lisa's doctoral research involved narrative inquiry concerning children and young people released from youth justice detention in New South Wales. Her current research centers on disaster recovery for marginalized groups in Australia, with a focus on the rights to adequate housing for older women impacted by disasters, and the role of social work in disaster recovery processes. She is also the Chief Investigator for the Social Workers Disaster Management Australia Project and collaborates with the Dharriwaa Elders Group and the Walgett Aboriginal Medical Service on disaster response and recovery projects.
