Biography

Lisa Iwamoto researches new materials and fabrication techniques for architectural design. Her creative work is centered on design practice, exemplified by IwamotoScott Architecture, which she co-founded in 2002. Her research and teaching focus on design synthesis, innovative coherence, and addressing material, technological, spatial, geometric, and contextual constraints in building. Her work spans innovative design across multiple scales, including installations, buildings, interiors, and urban proposals. IwamotoScott has garnered numerous awards, such as the Cooper Hewitt/Smithsonian National Design Award and induction into Interior Design Magazine’s Hall of Fame, among others. The firm has received over 20 AIA Design Awards and has been recognized as a Generation Leader by Architectural Record’s Women in Design. Iwamoto's work has been published in hundreds of journals and exhibited in numerous museums and galleries. She holds a Master of Architecture with distinction from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Structural Engineering from the University of Colorado. Additionally, she authored "Digital Fabrications: Architectural Material Techniques," published in 2009 by Princeton Architectural Press.
